Fort Myers is located on the Caloosahatchee River. This area is livelier than a lot of other Gulf Coast resorts, with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants lining the main beach.

The historic downtown district of Fort Myers brings back the unique flavor and charm of ‘Old Florida’.

Those interested in local history, will also appreciate the fascinating museums of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison.

There is a narrated tram tour that runs from downtown Fort Myers, conveniently stopping outside both museums, as well as stops along the way at the popular Fort Myers Historical Museum and also the Aquarium.

Fort Myers is also a great base for exploring the idyllic castaway islands of Sanibel and Captiva , where there are no advertising billboards or neon lights, just natural unspoiled scenery with an abundance of wildlife and many fantastic beaches.

These hidden gems are connected to the mainland by a three mile causeway stretching from south west Fort Myers across San Carlos Bay. The Florida everglades are also easily reached within a 90 minute drive south of downtown Fort Myers.
