Day 1: Arrive Calgary
Fly from London Heathrow to Calgary, where you will spend the rest of the day exploring. Calgary is the largest city in Alberta and the fifth largest in Canada. Located just 80km from the Rocky Mountains, it the best location to test out white water rafting, fishing, bobsledding and snowsports.
Day 2: Calgary – Banff National Park / Canmore
In the morning set out to meet fellow travellers at breakfast before touring the sights of Calgary. Admire such modern and historic landmarks as the Calgary Tower, Fort Calgary and the skyscrapers of the commercial district. Leaving Calgary behind, set your sights on the Rocky Mountains, which can already be seen, far off in the distance. Experience the majesty of the mountains as you first travel through the foothills and then enter Banff National Park. Banff National Park is Canada’s oldest and first national park to open, founded by 3 rail workers. This park is known to be one of world’s prime locations for it’s majestic mountain scenery.
Day 3: Canmore / Banff National Park
The entire day is for you to tour Banff at your leisure and browse through the many boutiques and speciality shops along Banff Avenue. An optional full-day tour is offered to the Columbia Icefield. The tour starts with a visit to the turquoise waters and spectacular glacier of Lake Louise, the jewel of the Rockies. From the unsurpassed beauty of Lake Louise you enter rugged wilderness as you travel up the world famous Icefield Parkway. Here you will board an Ice Explorer that will take you onto the surface of the ancient Athabasca Glacier.
Day 4: Canmore – Kamloops
Day 4’s drive is on the famed Trans-Canada Highway, following a route charted by the railroad engineers and fur traders of the mid 1800’s. You will continue your tour of the Canadian parks system crossing the jagged Kicking Horse Pass into British Columbia’s Yoho National Park. Yoho National Park is located in the Rocky Mountains and has some spectacular views from the Wapta Falls, located on the Kicking Horse River to the Takakkaw Falls. Located in Yoho National Park is also the Lake O’Hara area which contains wooded trails, alpine lakes and cliffs. From the highway, you are treated to a dazzling display of vast icefields, deep canyons, dense forests and glacier-fed streams.
Day 5: Kamloops – Whistler
Expect a day of dramatic scenery changes when you drive through the ranch lands and head for the coastal mountains. An optional Floatplane Sightseeing Tour over Garibaldi Park gives you an inspiring view of a natural vista of volcanic peaks, alpine lakes and meadows. Whistler village has been built around a pedestrian-only walkway and everything from activities and entertainment to shops is within walking distance. Whistler is known to be Canada’s premier year-round location for skiing and snowboarding, four golf championship courses and mountain biking, so whatever time of year you go, whether rain, snow, wind or sunshine you won’t be disappointed!
Day 6: Whistler – Vancouver
Drive south along the spectacular Sea-to-Sky Highway to Vancouver through a dramatic landscape of jagged fjords and glaciated mountain peaks. After a sightseeing tour of the city, the afternoon is free to discover more of this coastal gem.
Day 7: Vancouver
The Pacific Ocean and the Coast Mountains form the backdrop to your day in Vancouver. You might want to do some shopping down on Robson Street, relax in Vancouver’s playground Stanley Park or stroll through the markets of Granville Island. If you prefer to explore the outdoors, take a gondola ride to the summit of Grouse Mountain.
Day 8: Depart Vancouver
Last minute shopping before making your way to the airport for your flight back to the London Heathrow.
