Travelling to Tunisia – Change in UK Government Advice
28th July 2017
The government have relaxed concerns regarding travelling to Tunisia. Announced on Wednesday 26th July, the UK Government “no longer advise against travel to Tunisia, except for parts of the south and interior and certain areas near the borders with Algeria and Libya.” Previously, the Foreign Office had advised holiday makers against travelling to the popular north African country following the terrorist attack in Sousse which saw 30 Britons lose their life. However, this announcement means that tour companies, travel agents, and cruise operators can now start sending tourists back to certain areas, including Pillinger World Travel. “Travel to Tunisia can now resume and travel companies can put in place plans for holidays to Tunisia to restart, should they wish to do so.” The Foreign Office reiterated the message terrorists are still “very likely” to target western tourists and that they should stay cautious, particularly during religious festivals and at specific religious sites. As stated above, the Foreign Office also continues to advise against travel to the south of Tunisia and advises against any travel to areas that share the border with Libya and Algeria. ABTA (Association of Travel Agents & Tour Operators) stated: “This change in the level of travel advice means that travel to Tunisia can now resume and travel companies can put in place plans for holidays to Tunisia to restart, should they wish to do so.” Upon announcing the alterations in advice, the Foreign Office said the following: “Since the terrorist attack in Sousse in June 2015, which targeted tourists, the UK government has been working closely with the Tunisian authorities to investigate the attack and the wider threat from terrorist groups. The Tunisian government has improved protective security in major cities and tourist resorts.” If you’d like to visit Tunisia, or have any concerns or queries regarding travelling to the country then don’t hesitate to give one of our travel experts a call on 01772 337 448 or email email@example.com, and in the interim, make sure you stay connected with our social media for the best in luxury travel offers around the globe!
