America Multi-Centre Destination Ideas

Why only enjoy one holiday when you can experience, two, three or more, all in one trip? With the help of Pillinger World Travel, you can make your holiday that little bit more exciting by travelling further afield on a multi-centre holiday. Travel from coast to coast of the US, enjoying the bustling city life of New York or LA, as well as the remote mountains or deserts of Nevada or New Mexico. Here, the experts at Pillinger World Travel discuss some of their favourite US multi-centre destinations.

Toronto, Hawaii & San Francisco

This multi-centre trip allows you to experience the different elements of culture that North America has to offer. The city of Toronto is a cosmopolitan, multicultural haven, boasting business, finance, arts and culture. Toronto is also only a 2 hour drive away from the famous Niagara Falls, straddling the Canadian border and the American state of New York. Enjoy a city break here before a relaxing beach-side holiday in Hawaii.

While it is a long flight between the two destinations (around 12 hours), the setting at the end will be well worth it. Embrace the ‘Aloha’ way of life with the island’s golden beaches and the warm tropical climate. After a surf and sunbathe in Hawaii, you can venture over to San Francisco to pick up the pace of life.

San Francisco, home to the Golden Gate Bridge, the former Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary and a hilly landscape, is a great city for sightseeing and soaking up the culture of Northern California. It’s the perfect way to end this multi-centre trip.

Route 66

As one of the original highways in the US, Route 66 covers nearly 2,500 miles, passing through seven state boundaries. This road trip is the multi-centre holiday to end all holidays, travelling through the diverse regions of the United States.

Route 66 starts in the midwestern region of the US, originating in Illinois, home to the ‘windy city’ of Chicago and its capital, Springfield. The route then ventures into the state of Missouri, with the well-known cities of St. Louis, Kansas City and Branson. Oklahoma is the next state on the highway, nicknamed “the Sooner State”, due to the non-Native settlers who secured the land before the official opening of the lands.

Venturing down towards the Deep South, Route 66 passes through Texas and the city of Amarillo, famous for Cadillac Ranch. Following on from Texas, the route progresses through the state of New Mexico, one of the least densely populated, mountain states in the US, with the highest percentage of Hispanic and Latino Americans. Travelling further west, Arizona is the next state on Route 66, known for its steaming desert climate.

Finally, on the western coast of the US, Route 66 terminates in the sunny state of California. Home to many famous cities, like Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Francisco, California is a leader in popular culture. The Route 66 road trip is the perfect multi-centre trip to experience all that America has to offer, from the deserts to the mountains; the isolated countryside to the bustling cities, and everything in between.

For those that would rather travel within one specific state, Florida has plenty to offer. Start off in the theme park capital of the world, Orlando. Here, you can experience Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Seaworld, to name just a few.

Once you feel like you have fully covered all the theme park adventures, hire a car to drive down to the Florida coast to Fort Lauderdale. Dubbed the “Venice of Florida”, Fort Lauderdale offers leafy landscapes and award winning beaches.

Follow the coast to the Florida Keys, a delicate chain of tropical islands with some of the best diving and fishing sites. The islands also boast a climate ideal for sunbathing and relaxing by the sea, as well as dining al fresco at the delicious seafood restaurants.

As the Florida Keys are only an hour’s drive away from Miami, it would be rude not to finish the trip at the metropolis paradise. The city is the best of both worlds, offering a bustling city life and the white sandy beaches and palm tree lined promenades.
